There Is No Timeline for Grief
When I first started this journey, I kept looking for the finish line. I thought if I just did all the “right” things—cried enough, talked enough, gave it enough months—I’d wake up one day and be completely on the other side of it.
I think so many of us fall into that trap. We live in a world that loves schedules, milestones, and quick fixes, so it’s only natural to wonder when the weight will finally lift. But grief doesn’t work on a clock. It doesn’t care about calendar dates, anniversaries, or how much time has passed.
Some days, you might feel steady, light, and grounded. And then, out of nowhere, a familiar song, a faint scent, or a quiet Tuesday afternoon brings it all rushing back like a wave. That doesn’t mean you’re sliding backward. It just means you loved deeply, and love leaves a footprint.
If you’re feeling frustrated with yourself today—if you’re wondering why you aren’t “further along” by now—please take a deep breath and let go of the expectations. You don’t have to be anywhere other than right where you are in this moment.
There is no expiration date on missing someone. There is no standard map for healing. There is only your path, moving at your pace, and every single step you take is enough. Take all the time you need.
